I believe you're thinking of the more costly gasoline-powered snorkel. CO has always cost more to introduce into the loop than CO2, for some reason. Additionally, with the higher cost of fuel to run them, more people are moving into the greener 'hybrid' snorkels manufactured by Darwin Industries (you may recall their motto--"Don't Mess With a DI!") which uses a combination of combustion and high-voltage electricity to achieve the goal.
