Unanticipated benefits of scuba diving
I have discovered that the more I dive and get into the many aspects of it the more I am learning about a multitude of other activities and subjects as well. For me living in Northern Vermont (yes we have great diving hear!) and diving wrecks in the area is the rich history surrounding the lake and its contents. I have enjoyed researching the wrecks I am diving, the history of the area in the time the vessel was operational and the events surrounding there sinking. I have learned more about my area above ground through diving than I ever knew or learned before!
So what have you discovered is an unanticipated benefit of diving for you? cheers, BTD |

I've learned a ton of stuff about physics that I somehow never managed to retain when I was told about it in high school. I've also turned into something of a local history buff through exploring wrecks, as you said. I find that diving makes history more hands-on, and somehow more real.
Other benefits include free seafood, new friends, great adventures, and a nice quiet refuge from my sometimes hectic life on land.

breathing and endurance
I've learned alot about CO2 and breathing.
I like swimming laps for exercise.... I have come to realize that when I use the nice slow-relaxed-complete-breathing that I do while diving (that results in an enviable sac rate if you ask my buddies) when I'm swimming laps, my edurance increases drastically.

Women love a man with a BP/W. And Speedos. In a more serious vein, I've learned better how to handle problems more easily in a foreign, hostile environment. Via the Rescue class, I learned my limitations and to acknowledge those so as to best help the victim and/or myself.

But there may be more truth to this than you think! I have been known to say that an absolute requirement for any man in my life is that they MUST be certified to breath under water! ![]()
