Dive-A-Thon
Four years ago, the San Diego Oceans Foundation implemented a fundraiser – the Dive-A-Thon – to "get diver's diving – while spreading our message of promoting ocean stewardship."
The fundraiser works like this: Divers seek financial pledges from friends and family to support their diving goal during the month of August (similar to a walk-a-thon). Some divers choose to set fundraising goals while others compete to log the most minutes underwater.
Divers of all levels are invited to participate, from seasoned instructors to "newbie" divers. With well over $12,000 in prizes and categories to accommodate the competitive and social diver, EVERYONE will have a chance to win amazing prizes.
Last year, the Dive-A-Thon event raised $32,000 and was able to fund ALL of our ships to reefs research projects and provided snorkeling trips to over 750 inner-city children. This fundraiser is the REAL DEAL …enabling us to continue community projects, educational programs and public events that have lasting impact in San Diego County and around the world. Whether raising white sea-bass to replenish our oceans, hiking local canyons to monitor manholes in order to prevent sewer spills, or scuba diving to observe marine environments, each volunteer gains a deeper understanding and appreciation for our oceans and the environment - all while spreading the message of ocean stewardship.
This year we are looking to raise $50,000 not only support our current programs but also to enable us to establish new ones.
