Question Weighting properly

Hello I was wondering I know that you need to add more weight if you wear a wetsuit. I have a shorty and I am weighted properly but I am looking to get a full wetsuit. Do you guys notice that you have to add more weight for full wetsuit then a shorty?

There are several variables to consider. For instance, a newer wetsuit will probably be more buoyant than an older wetsuit, all other things being equal (length, thickness, etc.). The buoyancy of rental suits will vary based on their thickness, length, and how long they've been in service.

The best way to find out...is to actually do a weight check.

Yes, you'll probably need to add a bit more. How thick of a suit?

I was figuring that I would need to add more weight. It will be a new 3ml wetsuit. I will have to do a weight check of course in the water I was just trying to figure out how much extra weight I should buy. I figure that I will probably need an extra 2-4 pounds.

So can we assume that your shorty is 3mm thick?

If you can help it, don't buy the weight until after you do a proper weight check. In order to trim out properly with your new gear you may have to re-distribute that weight in various locations on your rig, e.g., upper camband, trim pockets, etc.

if you have a 3mm shorty and are buying a 3mm wetsuit, i would assume that a 2lb increase in weight would suffice.
