I've got an in-ground pool in the back yard too. I dive it all the time. The water is 7 feet at the deep end.
I like diving it at night, with a tiny flashlight. The light highlights all of the defects in the floor, under the vinyl, that you can't see in the day time. You can also see how the water reflects/refracts the beam from the flashlight when you get close to the surface. I also do a lot of "safety" training stuff. I'll pull off my mask and throw it over my shoulder, close my eyes, then take off all my gear, and then switch to my octo, and then put on all my gear..... and stuff like that. I also like to play around with my computer. It won't activate until I'm at least four feet deep, so I sit on the bottom and purposesly slow my breathing to watch my computer NDT time change. Then, breath quickly (or purge the octo) and watch the NDT change again. It's interesting, and I learn how the computer responds. Remember your training - don't hold your breath, and emit bubbles slowly from you mouth any time the regulator isn't in your mouth... keep the airway open. and have fun.
