This is a good thread. My wife is a non-diver also. On a vacation I may get her to go snorkeling once or twice, but scuba is out of the question. If I could fins a place where there is shopping, or maybe a casino, she could keep busy, while I get a two tank boat trip in, in the AM.
And if she gets the shopping out of the way while I'm diving, I won't have to go along for that. |

My wife WAS a non diver and we went on a Southern Caribbean cruise in FEB 08 and I dove at three ports and she either shopped or lounged by the pool I was usually back on the ship and we would eat a late lunch together then go out site seeing or shopping together. She saw how much fun I had and got certified this past summer. I don't expect her to be my full time dive buddy but she will do a few dives a year and dive with me on vacations. The Cruise worked out well for us and we plan on doing it again in prob 2011

Same thing with my wife
My wife is a die hard snorkler. So while I dive she tries to learn to breath off a regulator in shallow water. But we wind up doing breath hold diving for her.
We got her a disposible camera and she has a blast when we go taking underwater photos. I can suggest that anywhere you both go, do snorkelling or fun in surf foirst, maybe if its beach she can learn to body surf. My wife loves that and builkding castles and sculpture in teh sand. and enjoy time with her first and get her settled. Another thing we found was my wife enjoyed the course work in the pool and book work she just applied it all to snorkeling. Maybe she can enjoy that. jimmy |

I am so blessed. My wife does not dive. She is from Key West and knows how to operate a boat if we need an operator.
Otherwise, my dive time with my buddies is my own. Be it local, crossings to the islands with the guys or weekends in the Keys. Having said that, I have gotten a BC for her (thanks Mark) and I have regs and she has her snorkel gear and family with boats on the water in the Keys. So I will see if she likes it. Usually for me, tropical vacations and cruises and the like, been there done that. So I spend the time with the familly. To OP: you are on the right track. There are so many places with good island life that the wife can enjoy on her own. Another thing to consider. Talk to the ops. See if they allow bubble watchers. I have a friend who dives while his wife stays on deck. She seems to enjoy it.
