The obvious connection is that people who dive tend to get on boats more, and they tend to get on smaller boats. Nothing suggests that divers are more prone to seasickness than normal.

I think one thing does or at least it does for me. I can go out and fish all day and not get sea sick, in like 10 ft seas.

Now diving I try to not go out in any more than 4-6 ft seas because I will get sick. For me it is the setting up and messing with your gear, and the way that you get hot in your exposure protection. The combination of the two will usually make me sick.

So divers inheritantly more sick well... not necessarily, but when you put them in the extra situations then yes

In my case, add fumes from the burining diesel engine and I am really sick.

The conversation drifted though - I was looking for a timeframe :-)

I have used ginger before and took the capsule about 6 hours before and was fine. Let us know how it works for you!

yeah the diesel fumes usually ultimatelly get me, but that part would be the same on a fishing boat too, which is why I didnt mention it.

The diesel fumes are bad enough on the surface, but when they go through the compressor like on that recent liveaboard, holy crap.

As for timeframe, I take dramamine, but I'm totally going to pack some crystallized ginger for next time. I've heard over and over that the "secret" is to take one tablet the night before, and another in the morning. It's done me well over the last 4-5 instances of rough seas, and I've definitely had instances where taking a dramamine last-minute did absolutely no good.

My experience was with candied ginger, not giger capsuls(all we could find). Last time in key largo I experienced seasickness for the first time. WOW that was bad! anyway i would take trip-tone the night before, then right when i woke up i would choke down(literally! that stuff tastes awful!) one serving of ginger (3-4 pieces). between 45 and 75 mins later we would be on the morning boat heading out to sea (in 7'-9' seas mind you) and never had a problem for the rest of the trip. I dont know if the capsuls would take a longer or shorter time to activate so i would say pop em 2 hours before departure just to be sure! Good luck!!
