SEA Signs
About SeaSigns Underwater Communication
I post this because its another language. Its a way for everyone to communicate with deaf divers and between each other rather than with a slate (which I prefer). But for those of you who are interested in learning something new, the link is above |

I took this class during a SingleDivers trip to Bonaire. Like said above, its based upon American Sign Language. OF course, your buddy also has to be familiar with the system for it to be on any use. But I would recommend it.
Its much easier for pointing stuff out than using a slate. |

I took this course earlier this year. My hope was that I could use some of the "signs" as a Divemaster, to communicate with other instructors/DM's, and/or students. Some of the signs were really good, and could be put to use. However, in my very humble opinion, a number of them were too complicated, and/or would be hard to see underwater. The other inherent limitation is that the person you are trying to communicate with must also know them. From what I understand, there are restrictions on who can "teach" the signs to others. Therefore, unless you can get a group who works or dives together to take the course together, it seems to have a built-in limitation. I always enjoy learning new things, but have not been able to put this to use as much as I had hoped.
