crossing from one agency to another
I am curious . There are some agencies that have specialties out there that I want to take that are not available through PADI.
How much difference is there between agencies as far as information and technique that might be a hinderence when I go for the specialties. Like is NAUI that much different than PADI and what about SSI. I was at the quarry with an SSI group and they couldnt even put their dive gear together adn they were supposed ot be advanced. |

not really as far as i know, at least as far as rec diving goes...naui does an unresponsive diver rescue thing with every class (which PADI doesn't do)...that basically consists of getting an unresponsive diver to the surface. I'm sure there's small differences, but nothing that should prevent you from doing a specialty class.
I took a PADI OW class, and NAUI for my advanced without any issues. |

Obviously you can't make comparisons if one agency doesn't even offer a particular specialty.
Otherwise the classes should not be tremendously different. However you can not use a specialty from one agency toward another. For instance PADI will not accept other agencies specialty courses if you are trying to achieve a PADI Master Scuba Diver Certification. PADI doesn't care the you took a drysuit class with YMCA and four other classes with them. Until you get five "PADI" specialties you can not get your Master Scuba Diver. I did my OW with IDEA and most of my other training was with PADI.
