sharing gear

I have gear and i was reading an old adage, you never lend your tractor to a neighbor it could come back broke.
Are any of you afarid that if you lend your gear it will come back in worse condition or even worse it will be lost?

I have an extra set that io scavenged of of e-bay for lending so my good gear doesn't go a wandering.

Do you think this was smart or overly cautious?

lending gear

I have a spare reg set up and compurter I have let other buddies use when diving with me. I have never loaned out any gear for use whithout me.
I would lend out a tank , backplate, or a set of fins, but thats about it if I were not going diving with them.

I would lend some of my buddies anything they asked for and some of my other buddies I wouldn't lend anything. Depends on what and who. If I did lend it would be good gear, not second rate/cheap(don't own any).
