First Dives of the Year

The family went to a warm spring this afternoon to get our first dives of the year in. Nice warm water and lots of snow on the mountains. Great diving.

Hope for many more this year.

Unfortunately, my first dives of the year are going to be a ways off. I'm not drysuit certified yet, and the water around here is much too cold (for me anyway) to go in any thickness wetsuit. Alas, it seems I'll be waiting for March to roll around yet again...and boy it cannot come soon enough.

A bunch of firsts on the first!

I did my first New Years Day dive! I was just certified in 2008, so this was my first NYD dive to participate in.

I dove at WhiteStar Quarry in Gibsonburg, Oh.

I had to jump off a 5 foot rocky ledge through a thin sheet of ice. 2 complete new firsts for me - thus far I have always waded into the quarry. Plus, the thin layer of ice was pretty cool and yeah, I little, runt ro Shaggy.

The ice was pretty thin - you popped up right through it. Looking at the shore through the ice was pretty awesome.

I was seriously underweighted and couldn't control my boyancy towards the end of the dive .

Had a great time! A special thanks to Rich S. for hosting a fun afternoon at WhiteStar!

There's no way to know for sure, but I'd like to think that I was first to dive Lake Travis in 2009 with my buddies. In the water at about 8:45AM.

Water was in the cool 50's, but I was wearing more than enough wetsuit. Totally mis-judged my weight required for the farmer john 6.5 mm on the first try, but with an additional 5 lbs, I was able to get down. Since the lake was so low, we were able to get into the pecan grove at Windy Point at 84'.

Have a happy and Blessed year, everyone!

I am going to Lake Pleasant tomorrow for my first dive of the year. It will also be my first boat dive at the lake. I can't wait I have been dry for almost a month! I heard the water is still 57 so I can still handle it in my 5ml but I am thinking a 7ml will be needed real soon if it gets colder and i still want to dive.

Well I think I have the coldest so far. 34 air Temp (not including wind chill) Water Temp was 32. Here is a link that one of the Local Club members put up. Roughly 20 divers, 5 Freeflows.
