Inflating DSMB Another Vid
The title of the vid is wrong, not "really" a lift bag although we often cross the terms.
This is a big 60# Halcyon marker. They are using a big Manta real. In Jupiter, you need to send them early because of local current and geography. I happen to use a 40# halcyon bag and a Manta "Junior" Reel. Easier to get a full bag by the time it hits the surface even from a relatively shallow depth (as these guys were). That's what I use. A Manta Jr and a approx 40lb 5-6 ft sausage. I put the reel in freespool, give the sausage a little shot of air to get it straight, then after rechecking freespool and everything, I give it the max air blast from my primary reg that I can get in it until it starts to pull me up about a foot or two, then let go. The only time I don't use it is, if I drag a fixed float due to lots of current.
Manta reels are nice! I just switched from a Diverite about 6-8 months ago. |

Agree. I was originally using a DR reel, but bird nested it once. Went to a spool. I then discovered the Mantas. They are Tits on a Ritz. I also have a conventional reel (kind of) with a ratchet I use for pulling a float.
The vid link posted I confirmed was an instructor doing AOW with a student. (I think that is great. Not a PADI requirement, but important where we live. I had to learn myself.) Quote:
