here's how I do mine. I don't know if you can see in the picture, but the line goes through twice and then tied using a simple square knot. But 1st be sure & wet the line so you get any stretch out of it. I don't know if it really makes a difference, and I've done it both ways. Trim the ends of the rope to about 1/4 & burn with a lighter. While the nylon is still gooey (or GUI for those computer nerds
) flatten with the end of a lighter or something like a spoon. This will keep the knot from coming undone. I also use a little super glue on the knot. Probably overkill, but so what. And finally, I use a zip tie. That way if for some reason the knot does fail, there is a backup.![]()

Pre-stretched line is tied into knot, burned, flattened, glued, and finally zip-tied? You would be Houdini's worst nightmare!

Well, it was in the 80's, and the light was about $45. So in today's money, pretty close. And actually, it was the kind of snap I used. But since then, I've done kind of an over kill on lights, or anything that has only 1 attachment point. I don't use zip ties on snaps used on pressure guages because if the knot does come lose, you don't lose anything.
