Its name is Johnson's sporting goods, they are located in portland/brunswick maine. The employees have a wealth of experience, and they remember their customers by name, usually after only going in once or twice. They also realize that times are hard and willing to work with you on prices and such. I have seen them treat everyone with respect from brand spanking new guys like me to the most experienced in the area. for example. living up here the water is pretty frigid, I was thinking about getting a 7 mm wetsuit, but, when I was talking to one of the instructers she said she would track down a drysuit and show me how to properly use it in their pool..

If you think about it, customer service and knowing your name is what should separate dive shops. Prices are typically about the same so people will tend to go to places they feel comfortable with. If they call you by your name and greet you and follow that up with good information what a plus.
It's been my experience too often to walk into a dive shop and the worker or owner start there speal about how great a diver they are and try to impress you on all the places they go. This is a real turn off for me - I typically will not return unless I have too. On the other end, I've been in shops where the clerks know absolutely nothing. This too is a turn off. If you have a shop where you walk in and they greet you by name and talk to your level on things, you have a winner. It kinda makes you want to go back to buy something or simply to hang out.
