Sex or Hex?
I just got a BP and Wing off E-bay, but it did not come with the attachment bolts (and I plan to get a new/different wing anyway). This is my first BP/W and I'm wondering if the Sex bolts sold on ST are worth the $$ or if I should just go to Home Depot?
Any suggestions? |

When I purchased my GolemGear BP/W, it came with stainless steel hex nuts and sex bolts, which have larger, flatter heads than standard bolts.
Bottom line, just ensure you have stainless steel to prevent rust.

From ST:- Perhaps an uncomfortable name... Scuba sex bolts use a male and female combination to attach various accessories to a TransPac harness or to a hard backplate (such as lift bag pouches, suit inflation mounting systems and sidemount buttplates). Another common use for the scuba sex bolts is to secure the wing to the TransPac harness or hard backplate when rigged for a single tank--When the BCD is taken off a single tank (perhaps to swap tanks between dives), the cam straps alone are not enough to keep the wing neatly attached to the harness. Designed to fit through a 3/8" hole, the scuba sex bolts aka Dive rite stainless steel assembly screws, include O-rings that create friction to help keep the screw in place. Scuba Sex Bolts reviews and discounts, Dive Rite - $8.40 each |

Hex might work if you are going to use a STA. What you are looking for is attachment hardware that will not rub against the tank and cause it to be unstable. Flat head screws might work if they will hold the wing in place and not protrude into the tank. I'm using large nylon machine screws with large nylon washers on one of my rigs.

Oh, and I wouldn't use the stainless from Home Depot unless that's all I could find. Especially for salt water. Not all stainless is created equal. If you want to be sure of what you are getting, try McMaster Carr.
