Aw heck, get out of the atlantic and try the indian for a change, Cocos Keeling or Christmas, deep blue from 1000 metres or more, whale sharks, mantas, biiiiig pelagics and being aussie, might even understand your lingo.

My wife is a teacher and my kid is in school, so low season is out. Beside from everything I have heard there are not many places for a Jr Open water diver to dive in Grand Cayman.
I did my second ever dive (discover scuba) in Grand Caymen with my (then) 10 year old son. It was a guided shallow (20-25 ft) shore dive, and it was fantastic. Actually my vacation in Grand Caymen was my best vacation so far - Lots to do and very relaxing ...... Oh yeah - I didn't have to pay for it either!

I know we chatted in private message a little, but I felt I should post here as well...

St. Croix would be a perfect option for you, as almost all dive sites have a "shallow" option to them... In fact, aside from the deep wrecks, vertigo and armageddon, I believe all other (good) dives around here have either the top of the wall, or a portion that is in 40 feet of water or less. (The wrecks are limited to just one instead of all 5, but its still neat). The pier has a max depth between 35 and 40 feet and is most definitely the coolest dive ever (it's different, so I won't say the best dive ever, but its definitely cool). Then all along the North shore, the wall typically starts somewhere between 20 and 40 feet, which means you can hang out right along the top edge most of the time. Thats where there is the most to see usually anyways...

Also, one last thing... after reading the responses in this thread, our high/low season doesn't seem to coincide with everyone elses in the Caribbean. Low season for us is May through October, with November being a ramp up to the craziness in December and January, which are by far our busiest months...

where in the Caribbean is summer NOT low season? It's hotter, part of it is peak hurricane season, and there's not all those folks trying to escape the cold. And while some folks are taking kids down there it's not like Disney World.

2. Flights are only once a week. We like to stay 10 to 12 days so much for that.
3. I have spoiled my wife with All Inclusive resorts. Her and the kid love to go the bar and get what ever they want for free. Capt's Don Habitat I think has a AI option , I have emailed them repeatedly and have not had an answer on it.
4. Bonaire seems to really expensive.
I am really looking for spots I can take my by then 11 year old diving. I want to find a place that reefs at 40 feet or less.
We did Roatan last year, been to Cozumel 4 times. So I am asking the folks here who have been to places that I might be able to think about going.
How about Hawaii or Grand Cayman?

Both Hawaii and Grand Cayman would be considered "expensive"....at least as expensive as Bonaire, which he ruled out for the expense.

Yes I am still seriously considering going and diving with you. But I also read where y'al are moving out next year also. Plus I have not found a AI in St Croix. I guess I should have never taken them to AI. I spoiled them.

Come on have you priced airfare to Hawaii?? We can do two weeks at a AI in Cozumel just for the price of airfare to Hawaii alone

Ah, yah, don't know for sure when we'll be leaving... most likely august-ish... Unsure of the all inclusive things though...
