there are many places to find a buddy, there are web sites, dive forums(like this one), join a dive club, or go to LDS and ask around. all you really need to do is let people know you are going diving and need a dive buddy and people will respond.

If you can't find a dive partner in SoCal, you're not trying very hard...

All the owners live there. http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=88 Try the Wrinkles/Mo2vation dives on Scubaboard, they're always looking for new divers. I'm in SoCal, too. Where are you located? SoCal is a big place, and if you don't want to meet up with someone 4 hours away, a little more detail is good.
 The Wrinkles/Mo2vation dives are a great place to start cold... just show up, find Christian (aka Headhunter on ScubaBoard) and he'll introduce you around. Also good are the DiveVets, who can be found every Wednesday night at Redondo Beach (Veterans Park) if you want to try out night diving. The Valley Scuba crowd has semi-regular get-togethers, mostly in the Malibu area, and the Beach Crabs have regular get togethers ranging from Malibu to Ventura. I have a full slate right now getting ready for Fundies, so I can't take on any non-training dives at the moment, but come October, I'd be happy to take you out for a dive somewhere if you want to see some local spots. Edit: Did you JUST now update your profile to show Anaheim, or did I miss that? I'm not as familiar with the OC areas, although I know Laguna Beach has some popular spots. If you want to head North a bit sometime, however, let me know come October. |
