Correct me if I am wrong Larry, but the issue is that the air from the tank is "DRY" not that the air is "COLD". While being well hydrated, sucking on candy, or wetting your mouth will minimize the discomfort, the only way to "solve" the problem is something like what you do. Use the biofilter, as it really does rehydrate the air. Or switch to a rebreather if you have the $20,000 to drop (rebreather, training, and necessary increase in dive travel)

I won't correct you as you are right. The amount of moisture you are losing during an hour of breathing dry air is significant. Perhaps you can find a way to make your mouth not feel dry with these other methods, but you are still pumping super dry air into your lungs. If someone tries the bio filter, they are normally hooked - but in some ways, I can understand $135 being a bit of money to spend on a product - and then in other ways I look at $2500 in scuba gear and trip - another hundred bucks or so to enjoy it more for the rest of your diving career... cheap. Two sides to every coin. |

hmnnn larry brigns up a good point to consider. If you takecare of the discomfort of dry mouth than what really takes care of your lungs? you are still pumping super dry air into your lungs. you just may not feel it as much. I don't know how healthy this is but I agree that it just may be worth the extra $$$ to be more comfortable. The only problem I see is us divers that don't have our own regs are out of luck... I guess its another item to add to the wish list. Man I hope after I buy all of my gear that I still have $$$ to go on the trip otherwise I'll be looking at some rubber ducks in my bath tub
