Pumpkin Carving....

Holloween is getting close and I've always wanted to take part in some underwater pumpkin carving. Unfortunately, my travel schedule limits when and how long I can go anywhere (when will I will the lottery?).

Being that there are so many in the DFW area and surrounding regions, does anyone know if there is a pumpkin dive at Clear Springs any time?

idk how stuff works there, but in vegas all the shops are in a association and organize things together, so you might just want to call your LDS

Funny that you should be asking this.

The ScubaDillo Dive Club is having our annual Pumpkin Dive (underwater carving) at Tyler State Park on 13-14 October. If you'd like to come meet our happy band of dive fanatics, our October meeting is at Midway Point Restaurant on 4 October. Social Hour is at 6:30; Meeting is at 7:30.

ScubaDillo web-site

We''d love for you you join us at either/both events.

OK, I'm newly certified this past spring....what is this pumpkin diving that you are talking about? Do you actually carve them underwater? And what do you do with all of the guts? I would think that they would float until you take the top off and flood it.

We do ours in the training pool, so the guts are cleaned out before you get in the pool with it. Even so, they are a little bit positively buoyant, so i drop a 2 lb. piece of lead inside to stabilize it. I'm sure that different places have different requirements, but in our case, there can be no designs marked on the pumpkin before the contest, so all carving is done freehand in the water. Our event is for charity, so it's good fun for a good cause.

Yes, you actually carve them underwater, and usually whoever has the best one wins some random prize. Its pretty tricky getting them underwater. And it is pretty messy, but lots of fun!
