First boat dive
Well today was my first time going on a boat for my advance class and let's just say that, it was a learning experience. Has anyone else had that happen to them that you just got so sea sick...I almost couldn't continue the dive, but once I got in the water I felt fine. oh and another thing when your coming up the ladder keep your mask and reg on...lol lil lesson learned. I think i feed the entire fish population with my food..but all in all I had a great exprience learning a new skill and seeing new things..oh and another thing I learned is to get the strongest sea sickness medicine out there..has anyone else had any experiences like this?

I learned that lesson long before I ever was a scuba diver I try to eat things that don't return as chunks when you get seasick. I remember one time I made the entire fishing trip without getting sick only to christen the side of our blazer with a stream of chum as we left the dock.

Yep, I used to puke after the first dive.. not as much now but sometimes. Feel like Hell until I get back in the water for the second dive. I never took any meds for it, just knew it was going to happen and made sure that chewed breakfast very thoroughly... I learned that a chunk of link sausage coming out thru my nose is VERY unpleasant!

As someone who grew up on boats when it comes to seasickness nobody is immune it happens to everyone eventually. I think the first time I got sick I was almost 30 and had been diving, fishing, and ocean racing sailboats since I could walk. Getting in the water (when possible) always helps though.

First boat dives are alway fun. I don't get sea sick normally but have had that feeling before. A few tips are look out at the horizon not anything close. Sitting near the back of the boat can help less motion but berthing diesel fuel can make it worst.

I got sick on my first boat dive-Gulf of Mexico. I had traveled a long way so nothing was keeping my from diving-Thankfully there were no waves on the bottom. My only real problem was trying to stay hydrated for the 2nd dive of the day. Dramamine for sure!

I was in the marine corp, on boats for over 20 years and just hurled for the first time in 15 years 3 weekends ago when I went out with a couple of buddies for a 100 ft dive in 4 ft waves in a 21 ft sea swril stripper. I wouldn't have gotten sick but the otheer 2 guys started hurling as I was locating the spot. Nice huh. Chain reaction.

never look down longer than a second or two. That is where you get sick. If you put your eyes on the bottom of the boat you're done. When putting on your gear hold it up so you can see over the edge as you are putting it on or just look straight. I am speaking from LOTS of experience here.

I get seasick on the ocean (but never in lakes). I always take Dramamine when I'm boat diving. It takes the nerves about throwing up away. I have fed the fishies once (luckily I surfaced at about the same time so I didn't have to throw up through my regulator).
No more strawberry / banana fruit smoothies for breakfast for me!!! |
