First Cold Water Dive
So after getting certified in Mexico last week, I braved the chilly New England water for the first time today. All I can say is WOW. So very different. All that neoprene, so much more weight... I had a bit of trouble with my buoyancy, but nothing a bit of practice won't fix. So until the end of November, bring on the cold water!!! I am determined to learn!

yeah, diving in New England is quite different from tropical waters. 1 dive here is like 3 dives overthere (experience wise). if you enjoy it here then you'll learn a lot. diving in new england offers a unique beauty you just need time to appreciate it. good luck

The seal dive is awesome off NH coast (the site might actually be in Maine, it's called Isles of Shoals). I did that one last year - saw lots of seals even interacted with one. Cape Ann diving in Northern Mass. is very good. Maine, i've heard is fabulous but wetsuit time is rather limited. I bought a book - Shore diving in New England with ~100 dive sites. Highly recommend the book if you plan to keep diving in NE. you can get it in any LDS to my knowledge.

Thanks Guys! I did enjoy the dive, but I think I have to get used to the conditions up here. I had some trouble with the swim out- I've only done boat dives until today. I'm not sure I'm ready for a dry suit yet, still need to figure out my buoyancy up here... But maybe next year!
I'm in Quincy, but it seems like most shops here dive Cape Ann. I'd love to check out some of the NH and Maine sites, and see what the region has to offer. I already love the shoreline here- I grew up in a fishing family, and am excited to finally get to see the flip side of things! |

Keep diving and you'll find cold water. I bet you that down deep there at Beaver Lake and Table Rock Lake that the temps are now in the upper to mid 40's. Should be about right for good diving, but it needs to drop a bit more to get to the low 40's and that's what we'll see in the lakes.
Quarries will get to the mid 30's around here in the Winter.
