Unhappy I'm an idiot.

I have been considering using a checklist to load everything up for diving. After today I'm no longer considering it, I'm going to make it mandatory. I woke up this morning and thought it looked like a good day for diving (what day isnt). Packed everything up and headed out to the local lake. Lake Murray is about 45 min drive from my house. The normal dive area looked extremely crowded so I ventured off and found a suitable place to dive. Started to unload everything and get the float all blown up and ready at then it dawned on me. I forgot the float. I never repacked it in the dive box after everything dried. Oh man, drove all this way an no float or dive flag.

I was so mad at myself, but tried hard not to let it ruin the whole day. I let the kids play at the beach area for a little bit. We then left and went to the nature center and climbed up the tower that overlooked the lake.

I also went and checked out the little dive shop that was in the marina and checked on the price of air fills for next time.

Overall had a good day with the family, but didn't get to dive.

We also forgot our dive flag a couple weeks ago but when we got where we were going we met friends there and there were many divers and flags in the water and it wasn't an issue.

that's too bad.

I thought I forgot my dive booties the other day. Luckily Illini_Fan pointed out that they were in the fin pockets

Learned our lesson about having a list when we forgot a mask! Lucky for us an instructor we knew was there and lent us one.

I forgot my weights the other day... pretty embarrassing.

Luckily my dive buddies didn't razz me too badly for making them wait while I retrieved them.

I rarely forget stuff, but lost focus while gearing up and skipped a step, and didn't look over things before I left. Double screwed myself!

I'd forget my own head if it wasn't attached.
I forgot my weight belt a few years ago and ended up with my dive buddies stuffing fist size rocks into my BC. Not as good as a weight belt but it did work. I got teased mercilously though and got called "the rock" so many times that I threatened to find a way to fart into their airtanks.

I double check everything now after the one time one of my teenagers switched one of their size 13 right boots for my size 11 left boot. I dove with two right boots that day. So, I try to check it as I put it into the car and make sure everything is what it should be.

You should have asked the dive shop if they had one to rent out. Probably would have only cost a few bucks. Been there, done that.

Every time I load up for a dive I dump everything out of my dive bag. Then I lay all the gear out on the floor like a person. Wetsuit, boots go in the fins, fins at the feet. Hood at the "head" of the wetsuit. BC lays over wetsuit. regs at the top of the bc. mask on top of hood. Gloves at the hands. weight belt and weight bag go at the waist.

There, now I have what I need to dive. Into the bag with extra masks, snorkels (like they'll ever get used), reels, primary light (backup is mounted on shoulder strap), knife.

My surface marker float sits next to my tanks, so it's hard to forget, but I have left it before. I'm much more of a visual person. I need to see it's there. I have a check list in my dive logbook, but I don't use it anymore.
I forget my log book most often becuase it's not something I physically dive with. SInce that's where I keep my C-cards, it can be VERY frustrating. But so far dive shops have worked with me when I forget that.
