How many of you have ever read the ABC story on Dave's death? Do you think he should have even tried such a recovery at that depth? I thought this was a detailed story, and found it very interesting. The thing that really bothered me was, why didnt he just bring the body up toDon's depth sohe could help him putthe body bag on?Narcosis? Does anybody know if there is a link to the actual video that came from Dave's helment cam?

Very sad story. I admire him for trying, I think he was doing it for
the right reasons. I'm guessing the body wasn't stable enough to move, it might have broken apart. I'm sure all options were considered. I feel bad, but he knew this could happen. |

I read about first over a year ago, as it was posted on Divester, in Outside Magazine. Purely by chance, I happened to catch the ABC News special.
I posted on these both times and my opinion has not changed. This was not a job for amateur well intentioned divers. This would have been a difficult job for even a professional dive recovery team. My heart and my condolences continue to be with the families. |

On Mt. Everest you lie where you die, if you're above the death zone. There simply isn't enough oxygen to put out the energy to bring someone down. Seems like there should be something like this with extreme scuba. If the body is in a place where it is that dangerous to recover, that should be their resting place. I guess my personal opinion is if I wanted to do this kind of risky dive, I wouldn't mind resting eternally on the bottom. The neverending dive. <DIV>Mt. Everest info came from watching Everest Beyond the Limit on Discovery. Discovery channel is awesome.</DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV>Ron</DIV> |
