Diving in a pool

My LDS has Scuba Tuesdays at the local college swimming pool. It is a chance to get wet and work on skills. I was planning on going before my AOW dives to freshen up on some skills and get in a little practice before the dives. I know that PADI and other training agencies really harp on always diving with a buddy, but to dive at the pool I would have to be insta-buddied and dive in the pool with a buddy. To me this seemed a little bit over the top. There would be several divers and instructors both in and out of the water during the entire time. It is clear, so everyone can see each other. I just wanted to get in and do my own thing working on some skills, such and fine tuning my buoyancy, mask flood and clear and so forth. Am I just a rebel, or does anyone else see this as just a little too much as well.

I decided not to go and just went home and practiced the skills in my own pool. I wasn't as deep, but I got in the practice I wanted.

It's only a 4' above ground, but if you really want to make the drive. I'll even give you my leaf skimmer and you can clean out some of the leaves that have fallen off the trees. I think that is the newest specialty.

Ken,
Check with your local YMCA. Ours lets my husband and me dive there. Plus, on Saturday while we were there....I found a really expensive piece of jewelery. For those of you gasping in horror, I did call the YMCA on Monday to see if anybody had claimed that they lost it and left my phone number just in case. If nobody claims it though....yay for me!

I tend to think that they're taking it a bit far requiring a buddy in that circumstance.

And yet, I can also see some fear of liability from the LDS. Last thing they need is to lose their rights to the pool because some dufus hurt himself in the deep end cause he didn't have a buddy.

Yes, we are paying $20 per month for pool use only for our whole family. It's not much to see, but during the cold months it sure is nice to blow bubbles without 20 mm of neoprene on. We did things like practice bouyancy, lay on the bottom and blow bubble rings, and practice mask skills. Just kinda hanging out.
