If You Could Give The Gift of Scuba to Anyone...

Who would it be?

I'd love to get my little cousin Jared certified. He has ADHD and some other learning disabilities, but absolutely loves when I come over to test my gear out in their pool. I taught him how to assemble and disassemble the gear and he loves learning about it despite his attention deficit. He's the one person that I'd really like to help get involved with the sport.

My daughter, She has stuggled with self esteem issues over the last couple of years we even had her in counseling because of cutting herself. She has grown tremendously over the past year and really wants to get certified but it comes down to money. My goal is to at least get her OW done by end of summer 08 then gradually get gear put together for her.

Probably my father-in-law since he loves the water and always goes along to bubble watch on the boats.

My wife, she did a resort course in Cozumel and didn't like it at all. We are going back in June 2008 and I have already started working on convincing her she just had a bad instructor.

A friend of mine would love to learn, did the discover scuba and found she has problems clearing her ears.

My wife is pretty near a hydrophobe so she's out.

I guess I'll work on my son when he's a little older.

My best friend. He's had lung problems all of his life, so I don't know if it will be possible. I wish I could share this with him instead of boring him, talking about it all the time.

We actually are giving the gift of scuba! Some friends of ours recently got custody of their niece, who has had a VERY tough life. Between a lot of health problems at a young age, and drug addicted/abusive parents, she hasn't had a chance. Now, she's 15, and making a new start. They recently moved down here, and we're letting them use our rental property for free to help them out until they can get on their feet. Last month, for her birthday, we gave her a set of fins, mask, snorkel, and a coupon for the OW class. She is so stoked now! I haven't seen her smile very much until now, and it's truly going to be the best direction she's had in life. Now she has a goal! We took her out with us one time and let her breath through the reg and feed some fish....she's hooked!

Exceptionally cool man. I wanted to get my niece certified for various reasons, which I finally did, but you definitely went above and beyond man, kudos!
