Gear Marking

How do you mark your gear?

I know there are paints and permanent inks out there but I have never found one that stays on for very long.

I work in a lab now and have some markers that will mark anything and stay on through some strong solvents, but after a month or so in the summer it is warn off.

I'm thinking about some 60 grit sandpaper and a sharpie over the sanded part, than cover with polyurethane

Paint pen or silver sharpie (depending on the color). Re-apply every 3-4 months, or as needed.

I've given up finding anything really permanent. I do the silver and/or black sharpie and just reapply as often as necessary.

DAN tag on my BC, unique painted cover design on my reg, XL fins that are too big for anyone else, and 130 cft tanks that no one else can lift. Oh,and a camera system no one else uses anymore (Nikonos V with dual SB-105s)

What was the question again?

No it isn't. This is one way for all you dive with to know you've been around. I have a Tabata Bc that's 20+ years old that's still in good condition. I don't have to worry about marking it-no one else wants it.

my mark

I am the guy with the orange BC - I do not have to mark anything.

I think we're all out of luck when it comes to permanent markings. Sharpie or the good ol' "marks-a-lot" reapplied as needed is the way to go. Or you can do like my dive buddy, and get the most disgusting-colored gear you can find, and plan on being unique.
