Golf Ball Diving

I know that this requires some blackwater diving, but I'm curious has anyone actually done this and made anything off of it or this one of those get rich quick schemes.

I considered it but where I live there are far too many aligators and poisonous snakes in the ponds. Not to mention the thought of getting all that yuck on my nice shinny regulator and other gear.
There is a crew that comes around periodically to our golf courses, I see they get a gazillion balls each time so obviously there has to be some money in it. Just who wants to do it?

I have heard horror stories of people getting ear infections and other creepy illnesses from all of the crap (fertilizer, pesticides, etc.) in golf course ponds.

Around my area you can use a "rake" type of thing most of the time toss it in the water and pull it out and basket is full.

I've spent alot of time on golf courses (not playing I just can't do it and I' really tryed)

So if you really wanted to do it, you would not have to dive.

I do, on the lake, which is very clean. I was working as a construction worker and every day the guy who lived at the next house would shoot off a few thousand balls. Now I dive to pick them up, and sell them back to him, keeping the cycle going.

He sure does, he likes it because then he doesn't have to buy range balls, since I bring them right to him. And I know that within a few weeks all those balls will be back in the lake. I don't make a lot, but it is one way to pay for my diving.

sounds like what we used to do in Beaver Lake, AR...but they were our own balls and we sure as heck wanted to hit them as many times as we could! most were shallow enough to not need to actually dive, just swim out...ahhh, the good ol' days that could be spent doing stuff like that!

I personally wouldn't think the money would be worth the risks involved. If so though I would definitely have an 'extra' set of gear to use so you don't ruin you're main gear.
