First dive of the season

It's starting to get warmer now (as it should, we are half way through summer!) and I finally got out there yesturday to do my first (local) dive for the season. I've been so busy the last few months that diving has been at the bottom of my thoughts, but I'm so glad to be out there again. Nothing spectacular really, but for the local diving it was reasonably good, although still slightly cold for me (17C). New wetsuit in order I think. It's been on the list for a long time but just one of those many things I never get round to.

Thought I'd try again today and a friend and I went to do a shore dive ... I'll stick to boats I think. Long walk in the sand with heavy gear, only to get bashed around by the waves trying to get out (picture a beached whale trying to stand up but can't as there's too much weight on one side and in the meantime the waves keep crashing). Ugh. Finally get out, do the big long swim and start to descend only to discover we can't see anything. Total murk. Lovely. So we cancelled the dive and went and booked in for tomorrow's boat charter. Much nicer.

I love summer!

I hate surf entries. Even in snorkeling gear you can get knocked around pretty good, but with scuba gear it's much harder to keep your balance

+1 to surf entries-we have actually cancelled dives when the surf was too rough-usually over 3' You just get too beat up on entry. I did do a few 4'-5' wave entries, man, those were rough!
