Im new at this .My question is this .I have fins that require the boots . {cold water fins] Can and does anybody dive with theses down south .I dive up in canada in the cold water with theses ,that was my main reason for the purchase of theses fins .Should I buy a open fin for when I go to bahamas or would thse be fine ?

Most divers use open heel fins everywhere - not just in the cold. There are some that dive full foot fins in tropical - but it is personal preference. I dive my full foot long fins whenever I can get a chance - but there are some instances when I prefer my openheel fins such as a rough shore entry.

I've used open heel fins in Cozumel, Roatan & Playa del Carmen (and plan to use them in the Bahamas on Sunday) and they have worked just fine.

I dive the Gulf off Tampa Bay and use open heel fins and 3MM boots all the time. Bought a pair of 3MM neoprene socks to go under my boots when water temps are in the 50's. Also own a pair of short booties but they are a little big for my feet and give me blisters so I never wear them.
Will purchase a pair of full foot freediving fins here in the next couple of months as I would love to do a little free diving. Also my buddy dives and spearfishes in his freediving fins. Loves it. Just throws a 3MM sock on when the water gets chilly.

I wear boots for a variety of reasons, not just to keep me warm. I tend to get abrasions on my feet or heel when I am using full foot fins, so I find boots more comfortable. Also, they protect your feet when you are walking around on the boat during the SI, from the sun and from foreign objects. I use my boots in warm and cold water. There is no need for you to buy another pair, just preference

just buy some short little 3mm reef booties....they make good boat shoes too, and are good for walking out on the rocks to do shore dives and snorkeling

I also dive with DS boots, and when I go to a warm place I wear 3mm wetsuit booties and use my regular fins. Haven't had any problems, and i'd much rather stay with my gear than use whatever is on the boat, or have to buy another pair of fins.

Hey Scub- Everyone has visions of pure white sand on the tropical island. You can find that. However, you are usually walking carrying gear and whatnot. If you step on something and it cuts your foot thats a bad thing. Also if your on a dock and its wood, slivers are a b....,steeping on sea shells not cute. I also wear my pinnacles because I feel more control with my fins. AND my feet dont get cold. Oh ya I'm from Edmonton so I know what cold is. seeya kevin

I wear my boots where ever I dive.. warm or cold...they are really comfortable and great to walk over rocks.. over sand... on a boat... coldest water I have worn them is 39F, and the warmest is 86 F..

I wear 5mm boots the ones (with the molded soles), on all my dives. I have worn them in water as warm as 87 and didn't feel too warm. I have also worn them as cold as 50 and my feet stayed warm enough.
