Info card for boat captain and contacts

Reading Navy On-Star's great post about making sure the Coast Gaurd / Navy know what kind of gear you have if they have to search for you got me thinking. How would I communicate this info to a boat captain?

Do I say "Hey if you end up having your head up your @#$ and leave me somewhere here is what you need to tell the Coast Gaurd" and proceed to tell him everything you have in hopes that he remembers? I somehow don't think that would be well recieved.

So I thought to make some sort of card to hand them. And say something like " Here is all of my info in case of an emergency". I think a business card is too small for the info and would be lost easily. A full sheet might be too big and regular paper not sturdy enough. But a index card or name tag card would be just right. Avery sells pre cut sheets at most office stores and Word has most of the template pre-loaded so it would be pretty easy to make.

Here is what I have come up with so far. I would love to hear what info you think should be added. The first part would be printed on one side, the second the other.

That doesn't sound like a bad idea really. Only thing I would add would be to laminate them.

Not all of it yet, just taking some advice from some of the posts on Navy On-Star's thread. Although, I just bought this:
http://www.scuba.com/scuba-gear-5/00...ry-System.html
I think that I should be able to fit it all in one pack. The only thing I am questioning is the raft but if I can find one like Split Lip mentioned on another thread. If I can find one that will fit I like the idea.

I actually got this and I wear it when I travel.

People see it (I got the red one) and ask what it is for.

Thumbs up

All great ideas. I really like DDGirls ID. (I would be cool of you could use it for a watch band)

I have made a laminated card with my C-Card and Insurance card (Both sides) that I give to the DS when I am traveling. If anything happens they have a record of my personal info and insurance if I am unable to provide this info or missing.

I do not put personal info such as home address, telephone, etc. because of identity theft. My insurance co has my personal info as well as emergency contact info to use if needed.

I would want the insurance co. to be the point of contact anyway.

Could you imagine a DS in Honduras calling a family member first and asking what to do?

Great thread!!!

My wife wondered WHO DAN was on my Emergency Contact list and WHY it was above hers.

OP - Great post and thinking too.

I do something similar to what dd girl has for my kids when we go to Disney. But I'm sneaky about it otherwise they would not want to wear it. It is about 2" X 3.5" has their picture, their favorite characters picture, and all of the adults in our party contact info. I laminate it and put it on a lanyard along with some pins for pin trading. They just think it's cook to have the pins and don't see it as dad being overly protective!

I actually lost my first one in a restaurant around the corner from my house & they did contact my sister, who called me. I went three different times to go get it but they never could find it again.

On the deal with the DS op calling family members you can get the interactive one with an 800 number to call or www. address. Not that I want a dive ops that is going to the web to look up your info when you are needing a ride to the chamber.

I think the info card for the kids is a great idea!

I was thinking about this some more and I think I have a new product for Joe and Larry. Call it the "Rescue Pack". Take a pony tank mounting bag like this:

And put another bag inside it. Put in all of your gear that you can't use at depth (water, mirror, raft, dye marker, space blanket, etc...) and mount it on your tank. In case of emergency, reach behind you and pull out the inner bag (maybe have a line connecting the two in order to make sure you don't lose the important stuff). That would free up all of your pockets and clips in front without a cumbersome pocket attached to your waist or thigh. And just think of all of the goodies we could fit in it!!
