Do you guys write weird stuff on your fins?

It all started with me writing my name in sharpie on my fins, then my brother was asking me why I did that. We got to talking, and he wrote on his fins "RUNS ON ELECTRIC DO NOT SUMBMERGE IN WATER" and "ELVIS LIVES!!!" Do you guys write weird stuff on your fins?

I had not thought to do that, but now I think I may make them a little less like something that others may want to "Borrow". I have written my name in some of my gear and marked my reg so it does not look like the others.

So what holds up the longest? I remember in my 20s I used to go cliff jumping at the forks in Jemez, New Mexico. Since it was a hard walk back up after the jump, I got a pair of water shoes and wrote crazy stuff all over them in sharpie. The material held the ink well. I tried writing my name on my fins and it rubbed off very quickly.

I like the idea though...any suggestions as what to use to permantly mark gear?

I use paint pens (from Michael's) on my fins, booties, dry box, etc. Started out with stars & stripes in purple, green & yellow on the black fins to make sure I came home with mine, then progressed to marking the toes of my black booties to match, then adding colors to my drab dry box - it's hard to identify a black item in a black dive bag, so why not add some color! A side benefit is that I can always find my DH by his fins (blue stripes were all I was allowed on his) during a night dive, or a lake dive at home. The paint pens hold of pretty well - I'll redo the fins maybe between 6 months & a year - depending on how much we dive ...

Alfred one of the top guides on the SS Coolidge in Vanuatu has "follow me" on the back of one fin and "Don't Panic" on the other. I thought it was a great idea.

I draw a butterfly on the strap of my scubapro jet fins. I was on a dive boat where you put your fins in a bin with the straps up and there were ten sets of jets. No problem knowing which ones were mine.

I use paint pens from the craft store on my equipment. I do have to re-do them when they start to fade.
