my LDS is quitting the biz
Just heard that my local LDS is quitting the dive stuff business and will be just a sports equipment store. Rats! I got my Scubapro stuff from them and was just about to take my stuff in for it's annual. I am sure that the other store in town will pick up their Scubapro dealership, but still...

I've dealt with a couple of stores that mixed diving with other sports equipment. Usually a lot of the hired help were fairly deficient in their knowlege of dive equipment and were a hassle to deal with. I like dive shops where they stick to diving gear with maybe the exception of some other water related items like kayaks or surf gear.
There is an exception to this however. I remember shopping at a large sporting good/ scuba store years ago. I was looking at a 100 CF tank and although new only had a year left on the hydro. The know-it-all manager warned me off on that particular tank and told me that in another year the tank would have to be condemned as the hydro would expire. He then tried to sell me a newly minted 80 CF tank. I asked him to sell me the 100 but to reduce the price since it had a low "shelf life" left. He happily knocked off 80% of the price of the tank and I walked out of the store with a new 100 for around 40 bucks. I was dissapointed that that was the only 100 tank he had left or I would have bought them all at that price. Sometimes ignorance is bliss. Last edited by Crimediver : 02-28-2008 at 06:11 AM. |

Probably not if they're staying around as a sports store. Sad, but it happens. As to picking up the brand that's hard to predict. You must buy a certain amount of goods to have it, and if you're already stretched with the ones you carry you're certainly not going to go out on a limb.
It's not a cheap or one or two item deal for things like this, it's big money.
