It is a good idea to have one for the navigation part of the class. They may not pass you without it.

    IMO, here's your best option:
Dive Rite Compass, Accessories: Compass, Dive Rite, Dive Rite Compass

Comes with watch style wrist mount, hose mount, and you can also add some bungee for a third mounting option...

I leave mine on my HP hose for all diving, unless I know I'm going to be doing navigation... if I know I'm doing nav, then I move it to my wrist...

Suunto SK-7 are really nice, but a bit expensive. Oceanic and Aeris are a bit cheaper and made well. I use a new style Oceanic compass right now (same as the Aeris) and love it. Can't go wrong either way. I'm not a fan of the DiveRite compass.

I'd like to know why not a fan of the diverite compass? I don't really care that you don't like it, but I'd like to know why...

Is there a benefit to the wrist/arm mount vs. a console mount or is it just personal preference?
