I'm curious Phestr, what type of diving can be done on Okinowa?
I am aware of the biog military presence there.
There are those dives that make you question your sanity, if not the need to seek immediate counseling.

We shore dive, for the most part. There are 20+ nice shore diving locations around the island. We do boat as well, but sometimes it's hard to justify the expense when you can walk 20 yards from your car and jump in. There's a few wrecks, but only one worth mentioning (USS Emmonds). Alot of sealife, all kinds of coral, and the vis is usually 50'+. I've only got a year left here, and I'm gonna miss it.

Ahhh... much better than Tokyo Bay. Although I hear that the visibility is 50+ in the winter. Right now we're lucky if we get 15-20. We dive mostly at Hayama. Nice area except for the get out and in. It can be a pretty good hike/swim depending on the tide to get out to where we go down. Nice place though. Lot's of rocks, crevasses, small caves, swim throughs, and a couple of small coral reefs off-shore. Good fish life... ton's of lobster. I have a few photo's I took last night in the gallery.

    Hello Okinawa Divers.

Hello Okinawa Divers, I also live in Okinawa and been here for 24 years (also half Okinawa) and lived in the states for 10. Got certified in 1989 and been diving in and out since. I'm getting ready to manage the Courtney Tsunami Scuba Lockers real soon. Come on by and we'll chat for a while.

When I visit my Marine in December, should I bring my heavy wetsuit? What will the water temperature be like Dec. 20-27 in Okinawa?

I wore a 3 mil when I was there and stayed warm during the "winter". You will enjoy the diving. I especially liked Maeda Point.

I'm a new Oki diver as well, hit me up with a PM if you want to get some people together.

I run a dive club on Okinawa with about 80 divers. PM me if interested.
Some will, some won't, I might!!!
