For U.S. Citizens: If you didn't live in the US, where would you choose to live?

I'm curious as to what your next best place to live would be? Those who live outside the US, help us know what the goods and bads are about living where you do!

    Ideally? Thailand, or perhaps Bali.

A little more realistically? UK, Australia, New Zealand. I'd like to speak the language.

The most realistic option? Canada. My wife and I actually considered this fairly seriously a couple of times, particularly during the GWB years. Went so far as to look into housing and employment options, and what we could get for selling.

I may still move one of these years. As much as I love this country, there's enough I prefer about elsewhere from a lifestyle perspective that it's still a somewhat realistic option.

    Grand Cayman or the Bahamas.

I'll vote for NZ and in particular Nelson, NZ on the south island.

+1. Wife and I looked into moving to GC a couple of years back. Still not out of the question.

I would say that I would want to be somewhere in the Caribbean. I would say the Bahamas, but dang it is expensive out there...figure it would be anywhere in the Caribbean. Cayman would be nice, as would the UK Virgin Islands.

Hmmm, toss up between Liguria, Italy, and Costa Rica.

I basically spent my first 10 years living in the UK. Always said that some day I would move back (Dad was in the military).

Actually, I'd love to live somewhere in the Carribiaan or maybe even Bonaire. The only issues are money and the fear that although I love to go to these places, if I lived there it would not be the same and get old in a hurry.

However, if this economy keeps up and the knuckleheads in Washington don't get their head out of ther a$$es, I might just look at buying an island somewhere and set up my own rules.
