CWSWine, where did you get that image? i ask because it is difficult to read. Also, how much for the Atomic Smokes? I've priced them new, even at ST...OUCH!!!!!!

Aquatrax, I wish I could dive now. Otherwsie, I'd accept your offer. Unfortunately, I'm involved in a clinical trial which precludes ANY swimming. Just a quick shower is permitted. I could try your fins in the shower, but I just don't think it would be a fair test.

To everybody, thanks for the ideas and info. Keep it coming.

Do you have a link to the original image or one with a higher resolution?

That looks like a table from one of Scuba Diving Magazine's tests. I'll poke around on their website to see if it's on there, still.

    Found it.

Article: 18 New Fins | Scuba Diving Magazine

    Chart (PDF): http://www.scubadiving.com/files/old...test_chart.pdf

One thing you should bear in mind re buoyancy, however, is that SDM tests fins with their stick straps, so if you plan to install spring straps (which you probably should), it could take a fin that's just barely positive and make it negative.

    Thanks the chart, CompuDude.

I use the quick-release straps off my Aqualung Blades.

Tusa SF-6 Imprex Tri-Ex Fins do float in fresh and salt water.

The Dive Rites and OMS Slipstreams are both neutral or very close to it, and stiff enough to do well with frog kicks, back kicks, and helicopter turns. It might be hard to find the Dive Rites currently as they evidently weren't happy with the last production run and are doing them over. OMS still claims that the smaller sizes are going to ship, but it's unclear when.

    Floating Fins

About 18 years ago (While diving off the Fling) my wife lost a fin that she thought she had looped on her wrist. I saw that she lost it but she didn't. I knew she had extra straps but no extra fins. I was against the rules to exit the boat from the rear of the boat but with the less than enthusiastic approval from the crew I left the Boat with just my fins Mask & snorkle. I was amazed at the speed a fin could swim. I caught it about 50 ft past the drag line, then swam back. I was happy to get back to the line where I could pull myself. I think I was glad the fins floated but I guess if they didn't another diver at the flower gardens may have recovereed it without the swim. They were Tabata Mini Liberators .
