I have a couple other computers and they both stay on for 24 hours after I stop diving.

I think your question is can you manually turn them off within this period possibly to save the battery. I haven't found a way short of removing the battery, but never looked too hard.

I change the battery once a year regardless. To date, I haven't had any issues. Typically, when I change the battery it is still good, but I like to start every year with a fresh battery.

I have an xr-1 and there is no way to manually turn it off, because of this battery life suffers

edit to add....the battery is a cr2450, I buy them at walmart or my local grocery store even has them for $3.29

There's got to be some kind of button hold combination that turns it off. 24 hours is a long time for that battery to be draining.

Battery to be draining?? Have you ever seen a digital watch? A LCD screen requires virtually no power. It would go for years just lighting up a screen... don't worry about 24 hours.

    True.

Just to put things in perspective though, the amount of power it took to run your computer long enough for you to type and send that message could power a digital watch for week.
