    Wore out my first reg?

While at training last week I used my Delta 3 DX4 oceanic regs that my mentor hates because I didn't buy from him, but instead online. I just had them serviced at Scubatoys too.

What a laugh he got as the purge covers disentigrated upon entering the pool for some pool work. They continued to function though they freeflowed quite a bit, which is a simple adjustment to correct. The primary and octo both fell apart on me.

It was just dry rot, and I am sure I can get new covers but it was enough to convince me to go ahead and grab some new regs. I went with the Atomic Z2's, and added some miflex hoses to boot.

I would still like to order some new covers, the old regs have always been good to me, any chance I can do that without sending the regs in for a new service?

Anyone have any tips for regulator storage to prevent this from happening?

I borrowed a buddy's Dive Rite reg and the ancient plastic purge cover disintegrated on me when I used it (crumbled and fell into pieces). Another buddy had a spare one that was several years old, it broke apart as he handed it to me. I bought him a new one for ~$5. The reg itself worked great, but parts will eventually wear out.

My Oceanics have done that as well. At one time a piece got caught after breaking off and caused a free flow during a dive. Ripping off the rest of the middle section fixed that! Haven't worried about it since. To purge I simple press the metal tab instead of the platicrap.

Give ST's a call. Its a 60 second part to change out and Id imagine they'd have no qualms selling you one.

Hey scubatoys, how much to send me the covers for a Delta 3 and Alpha 2002 model reg? I will put them on myself.

Why not give them a call instead of a shout out here.

FYI...adding miflex hoses to Atomic regs voids there warranty. Info from an Atomic rep friend of mine. FWIW.
Failing to prepare. Is preparing to FAIL!!!
