Sometime in elementary school I managed to hold my breath twice until the point that I passed out during breath holding competitions with my friends. I won both times but yeah, its definitely an interesting feeling. Doing it under water is easier though as long as you know not to panic, because you dont have an -option- of giving up on your breath hold.

I was a typical hold-my-breath until I can get my way pre-schooler. Freaked my mom out every time and worked like a charm. She brought it up to my pedi who said, "So What? If she passes out her body will immediately begin to breathe."

So the next time I try to pull the stunt, she digs in deep and yep. That was the last time this kid pulled that maneuver.
No one has ever retold valiant stories of logic - for all good stories are driven by emotion and the spirit.

Back in my teens when I was practicing breath holding for skin diving, my mom would come in, notice I wasn't breathing for about 2 minutes and freak. Guess she didin't like my color change.

My older brother was just like you ... mom asked the doc what to do and he told her to throw a glass of cold water in his face the next time he held his breath. Boy did he take a breath quick!! And totally gave up holding his breath after that!

Wow, really! That's beyond creepy. Any sport that requires rescue breaths after you finish is insane.
