    Got the Cavern Cert!

Finally was able to connect and get the cavern cert done. So I am now a cavern diver! So is Medicdiver!

The course is interesting and eye opening as well. A lot of skills to learn quickly to say the least. I know I need a lot of reel work still, got the basics down but still want to master it better.

The line following in a silt-out was easier than I imagined. Became second nature quickly. Doing it through some junked cars added an interesting challenge though .

And for those that have been to Oronogo, after all these years finally went in the air cave! It was good for line drills: Tie off on the primary, tie a secondary, make a loop through the cave and then go back. Repeat as necessary. At 20', you could do this all day.

What did the class teach me? Watch your air! Look around, you might see something that will be the saving factor in a pinch. 130' in a cavern is not a long way-don't push it, it could get you killed-know the limits! Bouyancy is good, but still watch it closely. You're here with a buddy, make sure you commmunicate often-before, during and after. Anyone can turn a dive at anytime for any reason without regret or shastising. Most important: Before taking a cavern class, be very, very comfortable in the water-we're talking "Wow, that shark bit off my fin...damn, I like these fins, oh well time to dolphinkick..."

I also have even more respect for cave divers and what they know.

    Bennett Springs anyone???

That is really cool Navy. Last month I decided to join Shala in her cavern course with Kevin. We currently have dives scheduled at Orogono at the end of this month and Roubidoux mid-November. It should be fun taking this course with Shala.

Did you go into the 4-Doors or were they beyond the course depth / distance limits?

We went in door #1 and stayed near the ceiling so we were within the 130' rule (200' for NSS-CDS) We went in a lot less than I thought we would though. We were able to see the line to the Lincoln Divers sign, but it was quite a ways below us.

Never! I look at Cavern as another set of skills that will help me no matter what type of diving I'm doing. I don't feel different, pretty much still a regular diver...(Hey! Rescue and another specialty, I can spend $40 and be a Master Diver!!! )

It does, since I have a bit of claustrobhobia anyway, I'm pushing those limits. Still don't like restrictions though...
