    Posting problems

Ok, for the 2nd time in recent memory since the new board software has been running, I'm having problems posting new threads. I tried to start a new thread in the computers and gauges section and got:

    Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /newthread.php on this server.

I tried several times. So I thought I'd PM Larry, well I got a similar message when I tried to send the PM (php script was obviously different... don't recall exactly what it was). Strange thing is that I replied to one of my own threads in the computers and gauges forum and that worked fine. And posts to this part of the forum seems to be working for me.

    Larry... Joe... any ideas?

Due to the mass amount of spam, Tommy tightened up the spam filters on the server... If you have a lot of "banned" words, you are probably setting off a block. Just watch what you are typing... shorten the posts, etc...

Ok, so now just about anything I write in this reply trips the filter...

Can you pm me an email address and I can send my post, so you can check it and tell me what trips the filter?

Also, if the spam is coming from new accounts, why not simply run the filter rules only on new accounts below X number of valid posts? And not run the filter on "regulars". I mean most of us regulars are not spamming the board... at least I hope not

Well it turns out it is from a phrase you had... If you would have typed, "I'm going to change the strap that is on my..." you would have been fine... but the filter grabbed the word strap, then the word on, and when it put them together, it did not like it....

Weird coincidence of words.... I'll see if Tommy can lighten up a bit on it.

I'm sorry .... but that is just TOO funny!! Makes you wonder what other funny things the filters weed out ..... the word strap and the word on would never have occurred to me as something to be blocked!

Oh, and in answer to your question, the spam filters are set up at the server level... to lighten the load on the vbulletin software. We were getting about 3000 attempted bot sign up and posts per day before he switched things around.... now less than 5 get through...

So it's all security stuff and spam stuff... so just don't talk about the "Rubber Strap that is On your D6 and we'll be fine!

So discussion about strap-ons is forbidden?
