    Going to San Diego

We'll be going to San Diego in late May. We would like to take a day and go diving. Where is a good place to go? I've heard Catalina Island and La Jolla are good. We will have two brand new divers with us (my two 14 yo's). This will be our first blue water dives.

    Any advice?

La Jolla is nice. I dove it last July. It gets deep fast once you swim out about 100m or so. Lots of life too. In front of the houses in the cove is a good place to snorkel and see leopard sharks and fish. I was told it was right in front of Dr Sues'es house.

I would recommend the Lois Ann out of Mission Beach. They are the only dive op I've gone on once. They were great folks, ship looked good. We were on a lobster dive, you might want to contact them and see what other dives they do.

    It's only impossible.

I used Catalina Divers Supply on the island. They were fantastic. The girls will probably like the island while offgassing too.

I can dig up a number if your interested.

There is no service between San Diego and Catalina Island. Most charters to the island leave out of Long Beach. If you are going to be in the San Diego area, I HIGHLY recommend using Waterhorse Charters. san diego scuba charter boat dives. Their dive boat, the Humboldt is top notch and Ryan and Anita make a great crew and a fun trip. They do trips to the Yukon, which lays between 60 and 100 feet. Check to see if they are going to the Kelp or Radio Tower. These are great dives, and may be good for your new divers.

If you decide to go to Catalina, a site I'd recommend, you can catch the Catalina Express in Dana Point.
Too many people miss the silver lining because they're expecting gold.
