Hey Dawn, our trip is postponed til this fall. So make sure you post on your diving & the land portion of your trip. Hope your leg heals fast.
Our guide tells us that nothing is going on there at all, no tourists at all.

We hear the same thing about the tourism there now. We got our hotel rooms in Cairo and Luxor for June for less than half the price we were going to pay for the end of April!

I'll definitely post a trip report ... hubby is very excited now because he'll be able to get his picture taken with the Sphinx on his 50th birthday! (Start with old guy jokes now)

50? I just turned 59 so he's still youg. Have a great trip. Only one thing will be a hassle, the hawkers selling stuff will hqave fewer tourist to sell to so they will dive you nuts. Did in nov 2001. Just ignore them.

Well, we made it to Cairo! Flight connections from Vancouver thru Toronto and Frankfurt made for a 20 hour journey, but no hiccups at all and our tour guide met us at the airport for a flawless transfer to the hotel.

Things in Cairo seem to be pretty normal, with the exception of very few tourists. we find the hotel and restautants all very quiet. Our first day on tour starts now (9 am sunday) to the pyramids, Memphis and Saqqara. Will report back soon.

Well, we have finished our two nights in Cairo and 2 nights in Luxor. Heading to the Excellence liveaboard tomorrow for 7 days in the Red Sea. It feels like 2 vacations in one!

Cairo is a big, dirty, crowded city that LOVES its car horns. Saw the important sites and really happy to cross the pyramids off our bucket list because I doubt we'd go back.

Luxor is the opposite. Very nice, quaint city. Very clean and not a lot of traffic. There are a lot more tourists here though. I guess they feel it is safer than Cairo.? Very hot this time of year, average during the day is 40-42 C (106-110F) but amazing to see all the temples and the Valley of the Kings tombs. We even booked a hot air balloon ride at dawn which was also on our bucket list and we absolutely loved it! (Even though it meant getting up at 4 AM)

I doubt we'll get internet on the boat, so will report back with more when we're back on land!
