I have been lots. It's fun. Viz is anywhere from 10-30 feet. Best to get there in the morning. The PH of the water is hell on Scuba gear.

Ok, I'm a bit pressed on time but I thought you would get more info. Blue Lagoon is a decent local dive site to Houston. There are two lagoons set in a piney woods that is very scenic and a great place to picnic and camp. The depths are about 25', maybe 28' in a few spots. Viz can range from a milky white nothing to 20 feet, and a few rare times I've seen it about 40'. The PH is very high as it was a limestone quarry. There is no life in the lagoons except for small darters along the bottom and light vegetation along the edges. The attractions are mainly old wooden boats that are starting to fall apart. There are platforms and a few other structures. It's a good place to get wet, practice some skills, and hang out with diver friends.

It mainly attracts those from Houston. I would say it's worth a camping weekend from the Dallas area once in awhile, just as many of us in Houston like to run up to Clear Springs or Athens now and then. Admission is $16/day, camping is free except you'll pay two days, there are a few cabins to rent, showers are available (I think $2 unless you have a cabin), air fills (incl. nitrox) and tank rentals (and some gear rental) on site, see more details here.
The water's more exciting.. with CHUM in it!
