Exclamation Canon PowerShot G1 X- Large sensor compact camera 1-09-2012

Could this be the photographers' compact that we always wanted?

The Canon PowerShot G1 X may look like the company's existing G-series compacts, but is a very different prospect. It's a large sensor camera with a flexible 28-112mm-equivalent, 4x zoom lens and extensive manual controls.

I wonder how much noise it makes inside a dive housing? A lot of cameras I have used in the past make a lot of background noise while taking video. What's it's predecessor like noise wise. I assume the new one will fit in the old ones underwater housing.

Don't know about the noise issue but my experience with Canons it is very very unlikely it will fit in an old underwater housing.
If you get confused listen to the music play.
To much of everything is just enough.

I would say there is no chance that it will fit a different model housing but I am sure you will see many housings available for it in the near future.

The good news is that the 28mm wide should have good existing w/a options available and the 128mm/4x should mean that the lens barrel does not extend to far causing vignetting or distortion issues.

I just moved up from the dark ages of a C-5050 to an E-PL1 which is already dated. I'll have to wait a few years.
