Don't let anyone rain on your dreams. Go to the PADI website to see the classes.
Best of luck achieving your goals.
    I love helping OW classes.

a new owsi can teach ow,advanced, rescue and dm.

you also get 2 specialities that you can teach.

to teach the other specialities you either do a course or you can self certify after a period of time/experience.
    Is it deep?

    its in the manual.
as long as you have the qualifying experience you can fill in the form and send the cash.

As a OWSI you can teach:

    • Discover Snorkeling (1)
    • Skin Diver (1)
    • Seal Team (2)
    • Bubble Maker (2)
    • Discover Scuba (3)
    • Scuba Review (1)
    • Discover Local Diving (1)
    • Scuba Diver
    • Junior Scuba Diver
    • Open Water Scuba Diver
    • Junior Open Water Scuba Diver
    • Adventure Diver
    • Junior Adventure Diver
    • Advanced Open Water Diver
    • Junior Advanced Open Water Diver
    • Rescue Diver
    • Junior Rescue Diver
    • Master Scuba Diver
    • Junior MAster Scuba Diver
    • AWARE Coral Reef Conservation (2)
    • Peak Performance Buoyancy (2)
    • Project AWARE Specialist (2)
    • Divemaster

The following are carry overs from lower ratings:

    (1) Divemaster
    (2) Assistant Instructor
    (3) Discover Scuba Leader (can be obtained as a DM)

The Adventure Diver courses are sort of mini specialty courses. For example, you can do a Wreck Adventure Diver course:

    1. Swim on the OUTSIDE of a wreck.
    2. Navigate the wreck to find the ascent point without surfacing.
    3. Maintain neutral buoyancy and body position to avoid touching the wreck or bottom.

You cannot teach wreck penetration, running a line, etc. without obtaining the Wreck Specialty Instructor rating.

Most OWSI will also get a few specialty instructor ratings like EFR and Oxygen Provider because they are required for things like Rescue Diver and Divemaster.

I think it is worth while to go to at least Rescue Diver. Rescue Diver was one of the hardest and most satisfying course I took. I am currently a Divemaster with DSD Leader rating. I plan on staying here for a while and assisting instructors for a while. Getting my DM was probably my second favourite rating. I learned a lot more textbook knowledge which I've been able to apply to my diving. The Assistant Instructor is supposed to give me the practical experience to become an instructor but I'm actually working as a DM to get some of this knowledge.

The most important thing is getting comfortable with the 20 skills. This comes from diving, diving and diving. Don't just obtain the knowledge. Take time to use it and become proficient. You can get your certifications fairly easy but being good enough to teach them takes a lot more practice.

Talk to people who have recently taken the Rescue Diver course with your shop. If it didn't push them to achieve more than they thought they could do, you might want to find a different instructor to take you to OWSI.

    Good luck and have fun.
