Cool scuba adventure on a cruise

Our family has paid for me & my better 15/16ths to go on a caribean cruise in june. The grandson has expressed in interest in doing a discover dive while on the cruise. Does anyone kmow if they allow certified divers to tag along as a dive buddy. My better 15/16ths would feel better if I was with him. He's 17 and my buddy so its no problems for me.

I've tagged along on a few and seen others do the same. The key is to "tag along" and be the follower. You don't want to get in the way and if you have this discussion with the instructor should not be a problem.

Your best bet is to contact the cruise line and ask them. Some ships have the dive instructor as staff, some contract with a local shop at the port of call. I've not had your dilema, but wanted information about nitrox availability and the possibility of getting a DIN valve. Celebrity gave me the contacts for the shop and I was able to get with them directly.

    I'm confused: Is he certified?

I once saved a man in Wichita just to watch him dive...(inventor)

I don't think the grandson is certified. The grandson wants to do a Discover Dive and the Grandfather (certified) wants to go along with the dive.

Navy, I think your confused because this is how it is suppose to happen; rather than, a certified diver just taking a non-certified person out on a dive.

I tagged along when my 11 year old got his PADI Junior Open Water in Cozumel. I videoed the whole thing. I stayed out of the way and also kept my mouth shut during the debrief. It was private instruction, one on one. The instructor was happy to have me there especially because I bought him lunch each day. As far as I know, it is up to the instructor as to whether he will want you there or not. My guess is you will be welcome.

No, that didn't confuse me, that made perfect and totally safe sense. mcr's last line threw me for a loop:

" He's 17 and my buddy so its no problems for me." I'm thinkng this means that they have a great time together, but I wans't sure. Confused as to buddy and maybe dive buddy in the same parargraph. Great! Now, I look like a grammar nazi... thanks snagel!

Welcome to my world....I live with collage English Professor. (Did I spell that correct...doesn't look correct...don't tell her)

Yea, the term buddy struck me a little odd as well, but figured it meant the traditional sense rather than dive related.
