    Clearing Ears

I have only tried to free dive a few times other then when on a snorkeling excursion. I always have trouble clearing my ears and can only go down to around 15-20 feet before I cant stand it anymore. Are there any secrets to clearing your ears other than the convetional scuba ways? (I have no trouble with my ears when scuba diving) Just curious cause I may try and do some snorkeling during my suface intervals on a trip to Curacao in august.

How do you clear them when you dive?
As long as you can breathe, you're still alive

Either the traditional hold your nose and blow or swallowing, but I have tried both even just in a pool and they didnt clear for me

I've been blessed to not have to plug my nose to equalize my ears. That, or I just learned early. My mom's a flight attendant, and clearing my ears was a necessary life skill as a kid

Also, watch out for freediving after diving. I've always been told to freedive before SCUBA. The repeated dives may mess with the nitrogen still in your body after the dives, and give you the bends. Something about shaking up a soda can.......

I'm planning on getting a wrist computer with a freedive mode for this purpose. I can use it when I go out with my tankless buddies for abalone or fish to time my bottom time and surface interval.

Open your mouth doing a "make believe" yawn. You should hear a crackling sound. This is what happens when you equalize. See if you can make this sound without yawning. If you can't equalize by just getting the crackling sound to happen, try other methods to make it happen. Good luck.
