Haven't done any training with ScubaToys, but as always have heard top notch training.

I personally would not waste vacation time taking a class. You guys have a few dives under your belt and a good time to think about AOW (and then Rescue). If it were me I would look at doing it locally and save the salt water for the fun diving. If you can do the AOW in the lakes and quarries, it makes the ocean that much easier. You are on the right track, what makes it or breaks for AOW or really any training in the instructor. There really is nothing magical about AOW except 5 more dives with an instructor and of course you will pick up more information and technique.

We did our pool part locally in 2011 and went to COZ for the referral. The PADI DI in Cozumel who certified us was the first to take us in 2009 or our discovery dives. He is "AMAZING." If i have to experience another experience like I had locally with the jerk in the pool, I'll skip AOW locally and "waste" vacation time to have an excellent instructor.

    Just my 2 cents

Hit a nerve...but proves the point....a good or bad instructor makes the class or turns it into a horrible experience.

(and yes, if you have to go to paradise to get a good instructor it's worth burning vacation time)

we have an interesting relation with our DM in COZ
He and his wife were the only guests at our wedding
and he and his team showed up to celebrate my birthday this last trip
his business went through some changes but he is doing good

Donna has a high trust level with him, and a real bad experience here

Unfortunately, I made a huge mistake the first evening of classroom instruction. The instructor went around the room asking us individually to introduce ourselves and to share with the group... our lure to diving.

The mistake I made was sharing with the group that I was seeking my certification after experiencing 4 discovery dives in Cozumel.

I wish I had kept my mouth shut.

I took my AOW and Rescue with Scuba Toys. I cannot say enough about how professional the instructors were and the DM's were awesome as well.

I remember my AOW lake dives were in the early spring and we were going to Lake Travis. All other students cancelled and the instructor and DM both went to Travis with me as the only student.

For my Rescue class the instructors, and DM's were again professional and extremly thorough.

I highly recommend training by the Scuba Toys staff.
