Just to be contrary: one bad aspect of being at the back of the pack is that sometimes someone at the front will silt-out the visibility. Or scare away whatever was there to see.

But I am also one that likes to "stop and smell the coral".

On my last dive I was Insta-Buddied with a speed demon. We hit the water and he was OFF like an Indi Racer. I thought he was headed for a favorite spot (he was a local diver) but no, we just kept swimming through the entire time. I know he didn't see a lot of things even though he was carrying a camera. I spotted a couple of things, stopped and was able to get his attention to point it out. He came back, took some pictures, gave me an OK sign and was off again. During the surface interval I told him that I would set the pace for the second dive. Much more sedate and saw a lot more stuff.

And on the eighth day, God said, "OK, Murphy, you take over"

Last time on Bonaire, though diving solo, I was always moving ahead to see what was next. I'm going again this November and I'm planning on doing a lot of hovering and watching and swimming real slow. Last time I saw a lot of the same/similar and I'm sure I missed a lot. I won't this time. I think people push ahead fast to see what's around the corner rather than seeing what is where they are now. I'm going to try and NOT make that mistake again.

Some of my favorite dives have been when I went nowhere....simply hung out in one area.

I could see that, our last dive was San Clemente
It was great little to no current, and it was specifically so we could take pictures and video. We did not travel far, but I set a personal best on bottom time with the 80
And I got more usable video from that one dive than the 5 others combined

Glad to here we are those guys

I go slow also, my problem arrises when I am the dm and end up in the back.
If it doesn't fit, force it. If it breaks it needed to be replaced anyway.

when ever we do car runs, I am in the back too. My car is just as fast as anyones, but I like keeping an eye on things

I am always at the back of the pack too. It's because I am old and slow and also because I take a lot of video. First in last out. The Captains is always telling me to come back a little earlier. Why should I get on the boat with more than 500 PSI I say.
